According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention 48% of Black women have herpes. Yes, you are reading this correctly 48%. Only one question comes to my mind WHY? Why are women losing themselves in relationships and sacrificing their health in the midst . As women, are we so desperate for love and relationship that we forget about the the society that we live in and the precautions that we must take. Love does not protect from disease or unwanted pregnancy.
As single women navigating through life and dating its almost impossible to avoid getting your heart or your feelings hurt, but you are in full control of your reproductive rights and your health. In this day and age there is almost no excuse to have an unplanned pregnancy or to have a sexually transmitted disease. As women living in America we are fortunate to have abundant resources around us. Women in other undeveloped countries do not have access to clinics or birth control therefore, they are forced to become baby making machines and die from sexually transmitted diseases. Unfortunately, that is her fate not yours.
You have to love yourself enough and demand that your partner get tested. Once you and your partner have been tested and the results are favorable, its not open season to have reckless irresponsible sex. Children change the dynamics of a relationship especially, when the pregnancy was unplanned. If you have goals and dreams that you want to achieve and children and disease do not fit into your grand scheme, then be proactive instead of reactive.
Love does not pay the bills nor does it exonerate you from disease. Love yourself enough to avoid becoming a statistic.
